Location Habitat

Shallow water with mud or sand bottom. Likes quiet bays and coastal streams. Inhabits shallow coastal waters, especially in mangrove-lined creeks and lagoons, but also found on vegetated sand grounds in typical marine areas. Young more widespread than adults. Feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates.

Biology & Physical Description

Body deep and compressed; second spine of dorsal and anal fins very long and strong. The mouth can be extended outward and downward. Color is greenish or grayish above, silvery below.
